According to our Puranas The word Holi is originated from the name Holika. Holika is the evil aunt of prahlada and the sister of hiranyakashyap. she has cheated the prahlada into sitting on pyre with her, But her tricked failed holika got burn on that bonfire and prahlada survive that pyre and that bonfire is the symbolic Victory of Goods over Evil.
